Located one hundred and thirty kilometers from Muzaffarabad at an elevation of 1981 meters above sea level Sharda is one of the most historically revered and captivating tourist destinations in Neelum Valley Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Named after the Hindu goddess of knowledge Sharada Sharda was an ancient seat of higher learning and spiritual pilgrimage between the sixth and twelfth centuries CE. The village is globally celebrated for housing the majestic ruins of Sharda Peeth an ancient stone temple and university complex overlooking the roaring Neelum River.
