Danyore Suspension Bridge and Tunnel

Gilgit Danyore, Gilgit-Baltistan

Overview

Spanning the roaring Hunza River near Gilgit city the Danyore Suspension Bridge and Tunnel is a remarkable historic engineering landmark built in the mid twentieth century. Locally referred to as the Bridge of Death due to its narrow single lane wooden plank design the structure measures over five hundred feet in length suspended by heavy wire cables. On the Danyore side the suspension bridge connects directly into a hand carved rock tunnel cut straight through a vertical granite cliff face. Built to connect Danyore village with Gilgit central bazaar before modern CPEC highway bridges were constructed this historic pass remains an iconic symbol of local engineering resilience.
