Overview
Situated at an astonishing altitude of 4693 meters 15397 feet Khunjerab Pass is the world highest paved international border crossing connecting Pakistan with China along the Karakoram Highway. The pass is nestled inside Khunjerab National Park one of the highest altitude alpine sanctuaries in Asia created to protect endangered wildlife species such as the iconic Marco Polo sheep snow leopards Himalayan ibex and blue sheep. Driving up to the border offers an incredible high mountain road trip experience through breathtaking snowy landscapes vast alpine valleys and icy mountain slopes. Visitors can stand right at the grand monument marking the Pak China Friendship Gate take photographs with border security officers and experience extreme high altitude atmospheric views. Due to harsh winter conditions and heavy snowfall the border pass operates seasonally between April and November making it the ultimate destination along the Karakoram Highway.
